The Declination slow motion control was changed from the power screwdriver to a power drill running a shaft. A worm on the shaft drives the worm gear. This has reduced the overall speed of the Declination Slew, but still allows a swing through 90 degrees in less than 2 minutes.
The RA slewing motor was reconfigured to operate through an identical set of gears. That changed from a ~4:1 to a 30:1 ratio. Both RA and Declination have variable speed controls which allow reasonably accurate positioning of an image on the CCD chip.
A plastic cover keeps loose objects and wires away from the gears.
